Port Antonio Square
Port Antonio the is the most North Easterly Town in Jamaica, Capital City of the Parish of Portland most recent census give Portland a Population of 82,685 of jamaicas 2,706,763 residents in 2011 census results. Portland, braggs its Natural beauty makes it different and should attract development toward tourism and articulture however there ample evidence Portland has lost its tourist appeal and now linger behind Parishes like St Elizabeth and Kingston.

While tourism exploded from Oracabessa to Negril and now White house in Westmoreland with some growth in St Elizabeth, Portland continue to regress with its crumbling tourism infrastructure. Facilities like the Trident Villa Hotel now rebuilt, Titchfield Hotel, Bonnie View Hotel, Frenchman's Cove Hotel, The Blue Lagoon and the Dragon Bay Hotel all remain in ruins or under poor or no management.

Dr Ben Carson

Dr Ben Carson

A son of slavery declare Obamacare is slavery, do you agree?

Benjamin Solomon "BenCarson, Sr., (born September 18, 1951) is a retired American neurosurgeon. Among other surgical innovations, Carson did pioneering work on the successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the head. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States, by President George W. Bush in 2008. After delivering a widely publicized speech at the February 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, he became a popular figure in conservative media for his views on social issues and the government's role in the health care industry.

Dr. Ben Carson didn't mince words: Obamacare is “the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery.” “It is slavery because it aims to make all of us subservient to the government,” he said. “It was never about health care. It was about control.” Is it having control over your health care that Insurance companies cannot deny you coverage as a result of a pre-existing condition.

When he was eight years old, his parents divorced and he was raised by his mother along with his 10 year old brother Curtis. He struggled throughout elementary school both academically and emotionally with his temper.

Ben Carson Prostate Cancer Pre-existing condition

In June 2002, Dr Ben Carson cut back on his public appearances when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He still operated on more than 300 children a year, but tried to shorten his work days: prior to his cancer he used to work from 7:00 in the morning until 8:00 at night.

Dr Carson has identified himself as being independent of any political party. "If I were part of one, it would be called the 'Logic party,' and it would be dedicated to commonsense approaches we all should be able to see." This would include "recognizing that our debt is so great we have got to stop digging the hole and spend less." Despite largely expressing conservative viewpoints in his National Prayer Breakfast speech, Dr Carson has also expressed some views at odds with conservatives, such as supporting banning semi-automatic weapons in cities

Emancipation Park or Usain Bolt Park

                                         Emancipation Park Kingston Jamaica

ONE OF the most enthusiastically sung lines from Bob Marley is his delivery of Marcus Garvey's command to, "emancipate yourselves from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds". While it is generally recognized, if not embraced, that Christopher Columbus did not discover anywhere and the African people did not begin their existence as slaves, emancipation from mental slavery goes beyond the general rewriting our story. In our daily lives, as a people, we celebrate and elevate the very things that enslaves us to positions of pride.

Hon Marcus Garvey,"emancipate yourself from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds".

Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr. was born in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica to Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Sr., a mason, and Sarah Jane Richards, a domestic worker. Of eleven siblings, only Marcus, the youngest, and his sister Indiana survived until maturity. His family was financially stable given the circumstances of this time period. Therefore, Garvey's father could afford to maintain a large library, and it was from his father that Marcus Garvey  gained his love for reading. He also attended the elementary schools in St. Ann's Bay during his youth.  While attending these schools, Garvey first began to experience racism. When he was younger, he used to be friends and play with his white neighbors. However, when they reached their teenage years, they began to shun him. Sometime in 1900, Garvey entered into an apprenticeship with his uncle, Alfred Burrowes, who also had an extensive library, of which young Marcus made good use.

Is the 4-h Club dying?

By 2020 the Jamaica 4-H Clubs will become the leading youth leadership organization in the Caribbean.

The goal of 4-H Club is to develop citizenship, foster youth leadership, responsibility and life skills of youth through experiential learning programs and a positive youth development approach. Though typically thought of as an agriculturally focused organization as a result of its history, 4-H Club today focuses on citizenship, healthy living, science, engineering, and technology programs

The foundations of 4-H Club began around the start of the twentieth century, with the work of several people in different parts of the United States. The focal point of 4-H Club has been the idea of practical mentoring programs for youth and hands-on learning, which came from the desire to make public school education more connected to rural life. Early programs tied both public and private resources together to benefit rural youth.

The 4-H Club  program aims to educate youth in arts and sciences and encourage fellowship through, community youth programs and service opportunities. With continued urban sprawl, 4-H Clubs continues to develop new projects like life skills for youth for its members well beyond the traditional agriculture, animal husbandry,  photography, conservation, cooking, public speaking, sports shooting , history, art, leadership program for youth and other life skills.

4-h membership hit an all-time high in 1974 as a result of its popular educational program about nutrition, Mulligan Stew, shown in schools and on television across the country. Today, 4-h clubs and activities are no longer focused primarily on agricultural activities, instead emphasizing personal growth and preparation for lifelong learning. Participation is greatest during the elementary school years, with enrollment in programs and activities peaking in the 4th grade.

The 4-H Pledge

"I pledge my head to clearer thinking,
My heart to greater loyalty,
My hands to larger service,
and my health to better living,
for my club, my community, my country, and my world."

The Jamaica 4-H Clubs is now in its 73rd year of existence and over that time we have distinguished ourselves as an organization to be reckoned with. Our reputation and our proven track record in training the nation’s youth is a standard not to be taken lightly. At this juncture, there has been a change of the guard in terms of leadership. On May 1, 2013 the mantle was transferred to me, so I have taken up the task of standard bearer. It is a task that I am deeply honored to receive and I humbly accept.

Jamaica's Allspice and Cancer

Jamaica Pimento
The Jamaicas allspice is known for flavoring cuisines around the world with a blend of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, pimento and pepper, but according to a new study by University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine researchers in Florida, United States, (US) the aromatic spice could be known one day for impeding the growth of, or maybe even preventing, prostate cancer, the number-two cancer-killer of men in the US.
In the study published online last month in the Oxford Journal's Carcinogenics and led by Bal L. Lokeshwar, PhD, professor of urology and radiation oncology and co-director of research in the Department of Urology, researchers demonstrated that Ericifolin, a complex compound in the allspice berry, Pimenta dioica, significantly slows the growth of prostate cancer tumors by suppressing the androgen receptor (AR). A molecule central to the growth and metastasis of prostate cancer, AR enables prostate cancer cells to survive even after hormone therapy, which along with surgery and radiation is the standard treatment for prostate cancer.
"Androgen receptor, or AR for short, is the principal drug target for the treatment of prostate cancer, but there is no drug that completely eliminates AR. This complex compound in allspice seems to do that," Lokeshwar said.
"The most interesting data show that it actually kills tumor cells which express the very specific prostate cancer marker, the androgen receptor. That is not to say that people should start eating allspice with every meal, but there exists the potential that the slow and steady consumption of this chemo-dietary agent may slow or even prevent prostate cancer."

For now, Lokeshwar and his study team, including first author Shamaladevi Nagarajarao, PhD, a postdoctoral research associate, and Lei Zhang, a graduate student, have demonstrated that Ericifolin kills prostate cancer cells and reduces tumor growth by more than 50 per cent in animal models, specifically mice that were injected with prostate cancer cells, then, either fed or injected daily doses of an aqueous allspice extract.
"To our surprise, it worked very well," Lokeshwar said. "It was surprising because lots and lots of products kill cells in the test tube, but they are not effective when consumed or injected in animal models. In this case, the tumors did not disappear, but they grew about 50 per cent more slowly with both methods. Further, these mice did not exhibit any obvious toxicity associated with other anticancer drugs."

Obama's Election Night Phone Calls To Rep. John Boehner And Sen. Mitch McConnell Went Unanswered Because They Were Sleeping.

Election 2012 President elect and Family

It is necessary to reintroduce the President on the united States to the world and the conservatives, Tea Party members and disgruntled republicans who still cannot believe Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. It is also important to remind these groups of people Barack Obama was re-elected by the American people popular vote in a national election on t Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Importantly Barack Obama received 65,910,437 or 51.1% of the popular vote, Obama won 332 electoral votes he only needed 270 electoral votes to be President. Barack Obama is our President a fact that Congressional Republicans will soon better come to grips with.

Americans are waiting for congress to Govern, the time for "pussyfooting around is over" accept the fact that President Barack Obama does belong in the White House and like all other Presidents and their Family should enjoy honor of the home that office.

Barack Hussein Obama II (born August 4, 1961) is the 44th and current President of the United States, the first African American to hold the office of President. President Barack Obama does belong in the White House

Obama's Election Night Phone Calls To Rep. John Boehner And Sen. Mitch McConnell Went Unanswered Because They Were Sleeping.  In November 2012, The New York Times reported that following his election night victory speech, "Mr. Obama tried to call both Mr. Boehner and the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, but was told they were asleep."  [The New York Times11/7/12]

Congressional Republicans Were "Too Busy" To Accept Obama's Invitation To A Bipartisan Leadership Meeting.  In November 2010, The Wall Street Journal reported: "After congressional Republicans said this week that they were too busy to accept President Barack Obama's invitation to a bipartisan leadership meeting today, the White House without fanfare announced the meeting had been postponed until Nov. 30 to accommodate the GOP's schedule." [The Wall Street Journal11/18/10

Mitt Romney Was The First Losing Presidential Candidate Not To Attend Inauguration Since 1989. In January 2013, The Huffington Post reported that "an aide told NBC News that Romney was at his beach home in La Jolla, Calif., during Obama's inauguration. While Romney reportedly had 'no big plans,' the aide said it was "doubtful" that Romney would watch the ceremony. Romney was the first losing presidential candidate not to attend the inauguration since Michael Dukakis in 1989." [The Huffington Post, 1/24/13]

Nothing is better than a family in the white house.

Rifle used by 5-yr.old Boy in Death of Sister

2 yr old "Dead" in the name of 2nd amendment right

A 5-year-old Kentucky boy was using a rifle made for children by Keystone Sporting Arms when police say shot and killed his 2 year old sister. The boy commonly used the .22-caliber "Crickett" kids rifle which he received as a gift last year, for hunting with his father.

Police say they were called to the family's home in Burkesville, Ky. after the Keystone Sporting Arms rifle went off and hit 2-year-old Caroline Sparks in the chest around 1 p.m. Tuesday, She later died at Cumberland County Hospital. no charges were yet filed, but a grand jury could have the final say. In Kentucky there are laws dealing with handguns and kids, but not for the Keystone Sporting Arms rifle used in this incident.

"Crickett" rifles are made by, Keystone Sporting Arms, are marketed as "My First Rifle" on the Pennsylvania manufacturer's website. Trooper Billy Gregory, "the gun used in the incident was kept in a corner of the house and the family did not realize that a shell had been left in it".

Investigation into the shooting is ongoing and could take weeks or even months, police say. If the reputable Keystone Sporting Arms existed before selling Guns to our children they can no longer be found on the Internet. Just like the National Rifle association went in silence after the Sandy Hook shooting Keystone Sporting Arms have removed themselves from the web and are no longer available for comment. The people who defend selling Guns and marketing kids rifle  to children criminals and may even make those weapons available to those who may harm our Nation cannot defend those 2nd amendment rights when the most vulnerable among us is armed with one of their weapons.

Our children are now expendable in the name of our 2nd amendment right, weather they are in a school in Sandy Hook, a movie Theater or a family home in Burkesville Kentucky while a mother left the area where the kids were playing to the Porch.

"High Capacity Magazine"

These Magazines hold 10 Rounds of ammunition .
At Virginia Tech, the shooter killed 32 people and wounded 17 with guns equipped with high-capacity magazines. These magazines enabled Seung-Hui Cho to commit the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.

"High Capacity Magazine Not an issue, National Rifle Association"

In Aurora, Colo., a high-capacity magazine made it possible for the gunman to shoot 70 people, killing 12, in only a few minutes. His 100-round drums jammed. Imagine how many more lives would have been lost had the drum not jammed.

The National rifle association contend high capacity magazines are not an issue , The  high capacity  magazine  pictured  here would allow a perpetrator in a Movie Theater , School or Shopping Mall to disperse 60 rounds or more in less than 30 seconds. If a criminal , someone suffering from a mental unstable condition  or just someone who mindlessly want to do harm has access to magazines with say ten rounds, how much less harm would he be able to do?.

Bowden Pen Maroons

Ambassabeth Cabins
During the Summer of 2011 the Carr/Allen reunion visited Bowden Pen in the foot hills of the John Crow Mountain in Portland Jamaica. It was August 1st the day the Maroons (Aborigines) in Jamaica Celebrate their Emancipation from the British Colonialism.

In the New World, as early as 1512, black slaves had escaped from Spanish and Portuguese captors and either joined indigenous peoples or eked out a living on their own.Sir Francis Drake enlisted several 'cimaroons' during his raids on the Spanish. As early as 1655, runaway slaves had formed their own communities in inland Jamaica, and by the 18th century, Nanny Town and other villages began to fight for independent recognition.

"Remembering of the past an antidote for the future".

Ndyuka Maroon women with washing. Suriname River. 1955

When runaway slaves banded together and subsisted independently they were called Maroons. On the Caribbean islands, runaway slaves formed bands and on some islands formed armed camps. Maroon communities faced great odds to survive against white attackers, obtain food for subsistence living, and to reproduce and increase their numbers. As the planters took over more land for crops, the Maroons began to vanish on the small islands. Only on some of the larger islands were organized Maroon communities able to thrive by growing crops and hunting. Here they grew in number as more slaves escaped from plantations and joined their bands. Seeking to separate themselves from whites, the Maroons gained in power and amid increasing hostilities, they raided and pillaged plantations and harassed planters until the planters began to fear a mass slave revolt.

The early Maroon communities were usually displaced. By 1700, Maroons had disappeared from the smaller islands. Survival was always difficult as the Maroons had to fight off attackers as well as attempt to grow food. One of the most influential Maroons was Francois Mackandal, a houngan, or voodoo priest, who led a six year rebellion against the white plantation owners in Haiti that preceded the Haitian Revolution.

Emancipation Day is celebrated in many former British colonies in the Caribbean and areas of the United States on various dates in observance of the emancipation of slaves of African origin. It is also observed in other areas in regard to the abolition of serfdom or other forms of servitude.

Emancipation Park Kingston, Jamaica

On midnight of July 31, 1838 it was reported with great pride that many slaves journeyed to the hilltops to greet the sunrise of Friday, August 1, 1838 that symbolized a new beginning in their lives. When morning broke, large congregations joined in thanksgiving services held in several chapels and churches across the island.

Today, Jamaicans continue to celebrate Emancipation Day through the reenactment of the reading of the Emancipation Declaration in town centers particularly, Spanish Town, St. Catherine which was the seat of Parliament when the Emancipation Act was passed in 1838. The day is also widely observed as a national public holiday when all schools and public buildings are closed.
